Character.

Ada peribahasa Indonesia yang berbunyi seperti ini, "Tong kosong nyaring bunyinya".Orang yang tidak mempunyai karakter, diibaratkan seperti tong kosong. Dari luar mungkin terlihat megah dan keren, akan tetapi setelah kita mengenal lebih dekat, kita baru sadar akan kebenarannya.
Di jaman yang sangat canggih ini, banyak dari kita terlalu fokus dengan apa yang terlihat dari luar saja, handphone keren, baju keren, penampilan yang keren, mempunyai extra kulikuler yang keren, pokoknya semuanya harus serba keren. I wanna be seen COOL!
There is nothing wrong with it. I think it is great! But it would definitely better if you also focus on what's inside you. Have a character.
Imagine if you are going to a friend's house. From the outside, it looks so grand, beautiful, so many attention to details, a large swimming pool. And you cannot keep on saying, 'WOW'. Everywhere you look, it is always a 'WOW'. But the moment you step into his house, everything turns upside down. It is so messy, the floor is dusty, you can see spider webs all over the places, and the place is dark. Your 'wow' has become 'eww'.
That is exactly the same with our lives. Terkadang, kita selalu fokus dengan apa yang bisa dilihat orang. Dan akhirnya mereka pun mau berteman dengan kita. Tetapi setelah beberapa waktu kemudian, kita bertanya, mengapa perlahan-lahan, satu persatu, mereka mulai meninggalkan kita?
Abraham Lincoln once said, "Character is like a tree and reputation like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing."
The best way to learn or to have a character is to look on God. As you get closer to Him, slowly you will have His character. It's not easy, because sometimes His character clashes with what your friends have.
Contoh: kadang kala, kita ingin berbuat sesuatu yang baik, tetapi yang baik belum tentu benar. Atau, sewaktu ada yang menyakiti kita, hati kecil ingin membalas dendam, sedangkan Firman Tuhan mengajar untuk memaafkan. Juga, sewaktu orang tua menghukum kita dengan alasan yang mungkin cukup konyol, sering kali kita ingin memberontak, again, Firman Tuhan mengajar untuk menghormati mereka setiap saat.
Hal-hal ini mungkin terlihat kecil. Tetapi jika kita melakukannya setiap saat, kita akan menuai karakter. We will be wiser, forgiving, and more obedience. Ini hanyalah beberapa contoh, dan masih banyak lagi yang kita bisa belajar sewaktu kita dekat dengan Tuhan.
As a teenager, get close to God, as His character will stick with you. John 3:30 says that "More of You and less of me". John the Baptist knows that we are not perfect and only God is. As we have Him in our everyday life, out life will change inside out. One day, people will come to you, not because what you look cool, but what is inside you.

Mendekati lebaran banyak diantara kita yang kehilangan para pembantu atau supir (saya harap untuk sementara) karena mudik. Saya hanya ingin menghimbau untuk kita tidak lupa memberkati mereka (be generous) sehingga kebaikan kalian dapat dirasakan oleh keluarga mereka juga di kampung halaman. Terkadang kita kurang mengapresiasi kehadiran mereka sampai pada waktu mereka pulang, baru kita sadar betapa besarnya bantuan mereka selama ini. Jadi, tidak ada salahnya untuk kita berbagi kepada mereka juga pada saat mereka berlebaran.
Berikutnya, Rev Dr. Mark Conner akan bersama dengan kita dan Mark sudah beberapa kali datang ke JPCC. Kali ini saya meminta Mark untuk memberikan seminar dengan judul: How to grow as a Christian. Kelihatan temanya sangat simple, namun mempunyai bobot yang dalam sebab terbukti banyak orang tidak dapat bertumbuh dengan baik sebagai orang Kristen. Saya yakin kalian akan diberkati oleh Mark dan untuk itu saya mau kalian mendorong teman-teman di DATE untuk ikut seminar ini yang akan diadakan di City Tower building (karena Upperroom sudah di book pihak lain) pada tanggal 3 Oktober.
Minggu malam pada tanggal 4 October The True Worshippers akan mengadakan acoustic live recording di Upperroom pada jam 8.30 malam dan sekali lagi saya menharapkan dukungan kalian pada acara tersebut mengingat selama kita berada di Upperroom TW belum pernah melakukan recording disana (TW youth yang sudah lebih dulu melakukannya) .
Berbicara tentang TW, Sidney Mohede bersama dengan Alvi Radjagukguk baru saja kembali dari Deeper Level Conference yang diselenggarakan oleh Israel Houghton di Houston, dimana Sidney diminta untuk membawakan lagu2 TW ‘Captivated’ dan ‘Hosanna’. Sungguh merupakan sesuatu yang membanggakan hati dan Sidney melakukannya dengan baik disana sehingga lagu ‘Hosanna’ langsung hit the crowd! See it yourself:

There were 3 good arguments that Jesus was Black:

Batmans.
A few months ago, I asked my boyfriend to buy Batman figures, because I am so in love with Batman movies, he's so goddarn good! And yeah, he bought 3 Batman figures and brought them to my house. I took some photo from my mobile phone, since we don't have a SLR, my phone's camera is good enough.
I gave little touch to those photos, and I pretty like it with the result. Hehe..

Something To Think About.
Sometimes we wonder, “What did I do to deserve this?” or “Why did God have to do this to me?”
Here is a wonderful explanation..
A daughter is telling his mother that everything is not going as he expected.
She's failing in school, broke up with her boyfriend, and her bestfriend is moving away.
Meanwhile her Mother is baking a cake and asks her daughter if she would like a snack, and the daughter says, “Absolutely Mom, I love your cake.”
“Here, have some butter,” her Mother offers.
“Yucks” says her daughter.
“How about a couple raw eggs?”
“Come on! Gross Mom!”
“Oh would you like some flour then? Or maybe some baking soda?”
“Mom, those are all yucky!”
To which the mother replies: “Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves. But when they are put together in the right way, they make a wonderful delicious cake!”
God works in the same way. Many times we wonder why He would let us go through such bad and difficult times. But God knows that when He puts these things is His order, they always work for good! We just have to trust Him and, eventually, they will all make something wonderful!
God's love is shockingly good! He sends flowers every spring. He sends you a sunrise every morning.
Whenever you want to talk, He’ll listen. He can live anywhere in the universe, and He chose your heart and will live there if you will only ask Jesus into your heart. I hope your day is a ‘piece of cake’! Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.
